Do you love writing? So do we!
If you’d like to submit an article to Hope for the Sold, please take a look at these contributor guidelines.
Article length:
600-1500 words
Topics to write about:
Our primary focus is on social justice issues like human trafficking (ie. sex trafficking/labour trafficking), sexual exploitation & slavery. Please make sure your post is well researched, contains original content, and uses reputable sources. If you include a quote or another person’s idea in your article, be sure to give them credit (adding a link is usually a good idea). We love good stories as well as informative pieces (but we don’t like it to sound like a textbook).
You can read through past articles to get a feel for our site and the types of articles we publish.
Headline:
Include a title (or a few title options). We may tweak it, but love having something to work with.
Do you pay?
No. However, you’ll get a brief bio that includes a link or two to whatever you’d like to promote — your website, twitter feed, facebook, etc. We’ll also be sure to share your post in our newsletter and social media to help you reach as many readers as possible.
Pre-submission checklist:
At the top of your document, please include:
- Your full name
- Email address
- Links to twitter/facebook/website
- Two sentence bio
How to submit:
We only accept pieces that have been written via Google Docs. Turn your write-up into an editable Google Doc and share it with HTFScontributor@gmail.com. (Do not upload a Word file to Drive, as we can’t edit it that way – make sure the piece itself is a google doc). Never used Google Docs before? Here are some instructions.
You do not need to send us a separate email when you’ve submitted your file. We’ll get a notification when you share (and you can also include a message when you share the Doc by clicking “Add message”).
Photos:
If you’ve taken (or own the rights to) a photo that goes well with your post, please insert it into the Google Doc. We reserve the right to use a different photo if we think it would be a better fit. If you don’t have a photo to submit, don’t worry, we’ll find one.
Headshot:
Our system uses your email to grab your headshot from Gravatar, so make sure your photo is uploaded there.
Will you edit my post?
Probably, but we won’t make any drastic, sweeping changes. It would primarily be for grammar, formatting & clarity, but we will do our best to stick to the original. You will be able to see the edits in the Google Doc.
Will you publish my post?
We reserve the right to select only the best (and most fitting) articles. If your article is selected, we’ll notify you within two weeks to let you know. If you haven’t heard from us within two weeks of submitting your article, assume that it’s a pass this time.
We look forward to reading your contribution!
