Amit Ramchandani, a 32 year-old Edmonton man, has just received a 5 year prison sentence for sexually exploiting two pre-teens. He met the first girl on social media, and after meeting with her several times for sex, got her to recruit one of her friends.
He filmed some of the sexual encounters, making him guilty of creating child pornography.
“In the video…Ramchandani asks the girl’s age during sex. When she says 13, he asks when they first had sex and appears to take pleasure in her saying she was 12.”

- A particularly disturbing piece of this is that Ramchandani had a degree in psychology, meaning that on an intellectual level, he was fully aware that his actions would have harmful effects on these young girls.
- A university degree should be a tool to supplement our character. Character cannot be learned in a classroom, but is best developed in the context of healthy community.
- Videotaping sexual exploitation is a relatively new trend that has grown alongside technological advancements. Once something is online, it’s very difficult to get rid of it. We are yet to discover what the long-term effects of this are on victims.
